Delray Beach Jewish Community

Boynton Beach, FL
[Additional Pictures]

Delray Beach, Florida is located just north of Boca Raton has a trendy downtown and a number of retirement communities. In recent years as Boca Raton's real estate pricing and available land for development disappearing expensive communities like Seven Bridges have opened up.

Anshe Emunah which is the only Orthodox synagogue that sits on its own property in Delray as opposed to a mall, is within walking distance of some luxury gated communities as well as senior communities. The synagogue has a private parking lot and has catering facilities for events and Simchas.

Chabad of Delray Beach is located in a storefront in the mall just across the street from Kings Point. Just to the East of Chabad is the Delray Orthodox Synagogue also located in a mall, but off to the side, with its own building and parking, across the street from Kings Point. Another Chabad in Delray, Chabad of East Delray Beach is located just under a mile from the ocean for those who want to live on the water. There are a couple of Reform and Conservative synagogues in Delray, and cater to the large senior communities in Delray Beach.

Delray does not have any Jewish schools simply because of its proximity to Boca Raton, and its generally older community. Something to Remember, Boca was a senior retirement community once as well.

Kosher food is plentiful with Glicks Glatt Kosher Market (same owners as Grove in Boca Raton), which features prepared meals, deli, takeout, bakery items, and plenty of kosher products. There are two Mediterranean style Falafel restaurants and plenty of kosher restaurants within a short distance in Boca Raton. Just like much of South Florida, there are plenty of supermarkets carrying basic kosher items including Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, Target, and many more.

Florida is actually quite narrow, it doesn't appear that way on a map, but the Everglades National Park cuts the state down the middle. I-95 and the Florida Turnpike have multiple entrances and there is rail service available for commuters as well. Both Palm Beach International and Fort Lauderdale International are within driving distance, and their close proximity to Boca Raton and plenty of senior planned communities makes for an affordable alternative.
